Temecula Woman, 30, Shot Dead; Recently Paroled Los Angeles Man Arrested on Murder Charge

Friday, October 9, 2026 · California · GSM News

A 30-year-old Temecula woman was shot and killed this week, and the suspect — a Los Angeles man paroled less than two weeks earlier — is in custody, the Riverside County Sheriff's Office said. On the morning of Oct. 5, deputies responding to a report of unknown trouble in the 28000 block of Colorado Avenue found Shaquilah Howard, 30, of Temecula, suffering from gunshot wounds; she was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Sheriff's Central Homicide Unit took over the investigation. Investigators identified the suspect as Rashad Populus, 28, of Los Angeles, who had been released on parole on Sept. 24 after an assault-with-a-firearm conviction. He was arrested in Oxnard on Oct. 5 without incident and booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of murder and a parole violation. Anyone with information can contact Central Homicide Unit Investigator Manjarrez at (951) 955-2777. (GSM summary of the Riverside County Sheriff's Office announcement.)
