Follow-Up: Steelers Beat Saints 16-10 in First NFL Game in Paris as Rodgers' 540th TD Pass Passes Peyton Manning for Third All-Time

The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the New Orleans Saints 16-10 on Sunday at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, just north of Paris, in the first National Football League regular-season game played in France, Reuters reported. The Steelers improved to 5-2 with their third straight win, while the Saints fell to 2-5.

The game's most historic play came in the second quarter: quarterback Aaron Rodgers hit DK Metcalf for 51 yards, then found tight end Darnell Washington with a 4-yard touchdown pass to put Pittsburgh ahead 10-3. It was the 540th touchdown pass of Rodgers' career, breaking his tie with Hall of Famer Peyton Manning for third place on the NFL's all-time list.

The lead changed hands in a tight first half. Chris Boswell's 28-yard field goal gave Pittsburgh a 3-0 lead that held through the first quarter, and Daniel Carlson answered with a 38-yard kick early in the second. After Rodgers' touchdown pass, Saints quarterback Tyler Shough completed all seven of his passes on a drive capped by a 1-yard touchdown to Devaughn Vele to tie the game at 10. Boswell's 47-yard field goal as time expired sent the Steelers into halftime ahead 13-10.

The second half became a defensive struggle. The Saints drove to the Steelers' 10-yard line in the third quarter, but Shough was intercepted by linebacker Payton Wilson. Boswell added a 39-yard field goal to make it 16-10 at the end of the third quarter. New Orleans later reached field-goal range, but Carlson's 52-yard attempt sailed wide right. Rodgers' 8-yard scramble on third-and-6 late in the game let Pittsburgh run out the clock. The Steelers shut out the Saints in the second half, and running back Jaylen Warren rushed for 101 yards.

Shough finished with 278 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception, while the Saints rushed for just 18 yards, 130 fewer than Pittsburgh. Rodgers completed 19 of 30 passes for 212 yards. "We need to adjust a little bit better," Rodgers said after the game, adding that the Saints' coverages differed from what Pittsburgh had seen on film and that the offense had to execute better.

The Paris game, the NFL's latest international stop, had been the subject of discussion over whether it would go ahead amid unrest in France, but it was played as scheduled. GSM reported on the pregame arrangements earlier on Sunday.
