Follow-Up: Huntington Beach Tallies King-Tide Damage at About 114 Buildings, Six Homes Yellow-Tagged

Saturday, October 31, 2026 · California · GSM News

The City of Huntington Beach, in Orange County, California, released its preliminary damage tally from the recent king tides on October 29: about 114 buildings across the city were damaged by the tides and surge, and six homes were yellow-tagged with restricted occupancy. The city had previously declared a local emergency over the flooding.

The hardest-hit areas were Sunset Beach and Huntington Harbour. The seawater also caused one structure fire, when saltwater came into contact with a lithium-ion battery, though the blaze did not spread further. During the event, Pacific Coast Highway was closed in both directions between Seal Beach and Huntington Beach, and the city activated its Mobile Command Post to coordinate response and patrols.

The city said assessors are still checking damaged buildings door to door, and residents who find water intrusion or soaked wiring in their homes should report it; yellow-tagged homes may not be occupied until professional inspections confirm they are safe. This round of king tides ranked among the highest on local record, and GSM has previously reported its effects in Newport Beach and along the San Diego coast.
