Georgia Beat Florida 27-8: Defense Forces Four Turnovers in Rivalry Rout

ATLANTA, Ga. — No. 3 Georgia beat No. 17 Florida 27-8 on Oct. 31 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, winning the SEC rivalry game for the sixth straight time. Georgia's defense forced four turnovers, held Florida to 246 yards of offense and built a 24-0 halftime lead, according to Georgia Athletics.
Ellis Robinson IV intercepted Florida quarterback Aaron Philo in the first quarter, setting up a 1-yard touchdown run by Nate Frazier. In the second quarter, Demello Jones added another interception, Peyton Woodring kicked a 28-yard field goal, and Bo Walker scored on a 1-yard run for 17-0.
With 29 seconds left in the half, Quintavius Johnson strip-sacked Tramell Jones Jr. and Chris Cole returned the fumble 66 yards for a touchdown and a 24-0 halftime lead. Cole finished with a team-high nine tackles and a sack; it was his second fumble-return touchdown of the season, after an 85-yard return against Oklahoma on Sept. 26.
Florida scored only in the fourth quarter, on a 2-yard run by Jones Jr. and a two-point conversion pass from Jadan Baugh to Dallas Wilson. Woodring's 21-yard field goal with 3:34 left closed the scoring at 27-8.
Georgia totaled 318 yards, with quarterback Gunner Stockton going 13-of-23 for 101 yards, according to the Associated Press. Florida star running back Jaden Baugh was held to 38 yards on 17 carries, well below his 109-yard average, as Georgia recorded 11 tackles for loss and four sacks. "We avoided turnovers for the most part, and we got turnovers," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. "You know, the Dawgs didn't beat the Dawgs today."
Georgia improved to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the SEC; Florida fell to 5-3 and 3-3.
