Follow-Up: Los Angeles Mayor's Race Tied at 40% on Final Day, Bass and Raman Neck and Neck

In Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, voters will decide the mayoral election on November 3, as incumbent Mayor Karen Bass and City Councilmember Nithya Raman enter the final day of the race.
An October poll by the University of California, Berkeley's Institute of Governmental Studies and the Los Angeles Times shows both candidates tied at 40% among likely voters, with roughly 19% undecided. In the same poll in September, Raman led Bass 39% to 28% with 33% undecided, a sign the race tightened sharply in the final weeks.
Both candidates are Democrats. The campaign has centered on homelessness and housing policy, public safety and policing, basic city services and infrastructure, and crisis response after the Palisades Fire and the Lineage warehouse fire in Boyle Heights. In an October debate, Raman criticized Bass's absence during critical moments as a systemic failure of leadership. Bass has the backing of first responders including the Los Angeles Police Protective League and Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna, and developer Rick Caruso, who lost to Bass in 2022, said in late October that he will vote for her this year.
Los Angeles is the second-largest city in the United States, and the result will be decided on Election Day.
