Wang Yi Meets Lao Deputy PM and FM Thongsavanh: Speeding Up the China-Laos Railway and Economic Corridor Cooperation

On November 3, 2026, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane, who was in China to attend the 11th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers' Meeting.
Wang Yi said China and Laos are socialist friendly neighbors bound by a shared future. This year marks the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the China-Laos Friendship Year, and in June the two countries' top leaders jointly announced the building of an all-weather China-Laos community with a shared future for a new era. China is ready to implement the leaders' consensus and steadily advance that community.
Wang Yi said the two sides should prepare for high-level exchanges, make good use of the joint committee mechanism for the China-Laos Economic Corridor, speed up construction of the China-Laos Railway and cooperation in trade, minerals and other fields, hold Friendship Year activities, and increase people-to-people exchanges.
Thongsavanh said Laos will unwaveringly advance the Laos-China community with a shared future, use the strategic dialogue mechanism, implement the economic corridor cooperation framework, facilitate trade, build the China-Laos Railway into a model project, and strengthen cooperation in connectivity, energy, minerals and super intelligence (SI), while jointly combating and preventing cross-border crime.
