Follow-Up: Soul Train Awards Recorded in Chicago as Chaka Khan Receives Soul Heritage Honor

Chicago, Illinois — The 2026 Soul Train Awards were recorded on the night of November 5 at the Harris Theater in Millennium Park in downtown Chicago, the first time the awards have returned to Chicago, the city where they were born, since their founding.
Soul Train was created in Chicago in 1970 by Chicago native Don Cornelius, starting as a local dance and music program before going into national syndication the following year and becoming a landmark of Black music culture in the United States.
This year's ceremony was hosted by Anthony Anderson. Chicago-born singer Chaka Khan received the Soul Heritage honor, and Durand Bernarr received the Soul Embodiment honor and hosted the red carpet. Khan grew up in Hyde Park on Chicago's South Side, and her homecoming award was seen as a centerpiece of the show's return.
The awards resumed after the 2024 and 2025 editions were not held. The recorded program will air on BET at 8 p.m. on November 27 and, for the first time, will be simulcast on CBS.
