Tallahassee, Florida, police arrested 15-year-old Anthony Rivers III on October 25 in connection with the mass shooting after Florida A&M University's homecoming game, and Rivers made his first court appearance on October 26. He faces 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and a charge of possession of a firearm by a delinquent, according to the Tallahassee Police Department; State Attorney Jack Campbell said he will be charged as an adult.

The gunfire erupted on October 24 behind Bragg Memorial Stadium following FAMU's homecoming game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Police Chief Lawrence Revell said at least 11 people were injured in the shooting and one more was hurt in the ensuing panic; the injured included six children, the youngest 11 years old, and six victims remain hospitalized, one in critical condition. Authorities believe the incident stemmed from a dispute between several people known to one another, believe there was a single shooter, and said none of the victims was believed to be an intended target; additional arrests are possible.

At a juvenile court hearing on October 26, Leon Circuit Judge Andrew Sheeran ordered Rivers held in secure detention while his case is pending and barred him from any direct or indirect contact with the victims. Campbell said Rivers will be transferred from the Juvenile Assessment Center to the Leon County Detention Facility. Police also said Rivers was one of three teens arrested in connection with a September 5 shooting in the underground parking lot at Governor's Square Mall in Tallahassee, in which no one was hurt. The investigation remains open and active.
