Zelenskyy Says Russia Has Struck Ukraine's Energy and Gas Sectors 76 Times in Week Since 'Energy Ceasefire' Announced
KYIV — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday, October 18, that Russia has carried out 76 attacks on Ukraine's energy and gas sectors in the week since U.S. President Donald Trump announced an "energy ceasefire," according to Reuters. The latest wave of strikes hit electrical substations in Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi and Odesa. "Since the American President announced the energy ceasefire a week ago, Russia has deliberately attacked Ukraine's energy and oil and gas sectors 76 times," Zelenskyy wrote on X. Neither Kyiv nor Moscow confirmed Trump's announced ceasefire agreement.
GSM has been following the "energy ceasefire" line: Trump announced the arrangement on October 11, and Zelenskyy on October 17 called Washington's decision to shelve new sanctions on Russia "regrettable." Sunday's statement was Zelenskyy's first systematic tally of Russian attacks on the energy sector since the ceasefire announcement. Russia had not publicly responded to the figure.
