Follow-Up: Rep. Omar Says She Will Move Out of Her Searched Washington Home, Confident She Did Nothing Wrong

Thursday, October 22, 2026 · Federal · GSM News

According to the Associated Press, U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar said on October 21 that she will move out of her Washington, D.C., home, which federal agents searched last week. In an interview with MS NOW, she said the attention from the raid had made her feel unsafe there. It was Omar's first interview since the search, and she said she is confident she did nothing wrong.

According to a person briefed on the investigation who spoke to the Associated Press, federal authorities are investigating potential fraud in her family's immigration paperwork. Omar was born in Somalia and is a naturalized U.S. citizen.

GSM previously reported that federal agents searched Omar's Washington home on October 12; that Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said on October 17 that multiple search warrants were executed in the case that day and that it was expected to go before a grand jury; that Omar's lawyers then wrote to the Justice Department demanding the immediate return of items seized in the search, which a department spokesperson dismissed as full of false allegations; and that former President Barack Obama defended Omar on October 18, saying the government should not selectively target individuals for their political beliefs.
