Follow-Up: Trump Calls on Rep. Omar to Resign; Omar Votes in Minnesota Friday, Clarifies Full Name

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota — The federal investigation into U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar saw new developments this week. In a social media post on October 22, President Donald Trump called on Omar to resign "immediately" and leveled allegations about her name. Omar has denied wrongdoing, calling the probe politically motivated; no charges have been filed.
On Friday, October 23, Omar returned to Minnesota and cast her ballot at the Hennepin County elections office. She told FOX 9 that her full name is "Ilhan Abdullahi Omar." She had been scheduled to speak at a press conference that day but did not appear at the event.
Earlier this month, federal agents searched Omar's Washington home in the early morning of October 12. In interviews this week she described the search in detail for the first time: beginning early in the morning and lasting about four to five hours, with as many as 25 agents taking 17 items, including phones, notebooks and a Somali-language children's book. In an October 21 interview she also said she plans to move out of the home because of ongoing death threats and safety concerns now that her address is public. Omar is running for re-election; Election Day is November 3.
