Follow-up: Melania Trump to Bring Russian and Ukrainian Representatives Together at the White House Over the Oleshky Ceasefire

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · White House · GSM News

The Office of the First Lady said in a statement on November 3 that First Lady Melania Trump will personally bring representatives of Russia and Ukraine, two nations actively at war, together at the White House in Washington. The statement also announced that Mrs. Trump will deliver remarks on the ceasefire in Oleshky at 11:00 a.m. ET on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at the White House.

According to the statement, Mrs. Trump independently initiated the engagement between the two warring nations and successfully secured a ceasefire in Oleshky and the surrounding Kherson region. The White House described the achievement as an unprecedented diplomatic initiative by an American first lady and an extraordinary moment in American history. The statement did not name the Russian and Ukrainian representatives or give a specific time for the meeting, announcing only the November 5 remarks.

The localized ceasefire was brokered by Mrs. Trump: the White House announced on October 23 that the two sides had reached an agreement for a truce around Oleshky starting October 29, to allow humanitarian aid deliveries and evacuate civilians who wished to leave; the ceasefire then took effect early, on October 27, and expanded across more of the Kherson region. Oleshky, on the eastern bank of the Dnipro River, has been occupied since the first days of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, and its remaining residents, mostly elderly, face severe shortages of food, medicine and clean water. The truce is a local arrangement, not a general ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
