Follow-up: Decision Desk HQ Projects Nithya Raman to Win the Los Angeles Mayor's Race, Defeating Mayor Karen Bass

LOS ANGELES, California - Decision Desk HQ projected on November 4 that City Councilmember Nithya Raman has won the Los Angeles mayor's race, defeating incumbent Mayor Karen Bass, who was seeking a second term.
According to the latest Associated Press vote count, with an estimated 63 percent of ballots counted, Raman had 377,458 votes, or 51.1 percent, to Bass's 360,864 votes, or 48.9 percent. Earlier today the race remained uncalled in GSM's counting coverage, and Raman said she would wait for the remaining ballots to be counted before declaring victory. The Decision Desk HQ call is a projection, not an official certification by election officials; under California rules, ballots mailed by Election Day can still be counted if they arrive within seven days.
Raman, a Los Angeles city councilmember associated with the democratic socialist movement, would succeed Bass, who was elected in 2022 as the city's first woman mayor. Bass's four years in office were marked by devastating wildfires, Hollywood job losses and persistent questions over City Hall's delivery of basic services, from homelessness to street lights and potholes.
