Follow-Up: Holmes Documentary "You Can See Everything" Adds $19.5 Million in Second Weekend, Reaches $45.1 Million

A24's documentary "You Can See Everything" grew in its second weekend in North American theaters. According to estimates from Paul Dergarabedian, head of marketplace trends at Rentrak, the film earned about $19.5 million over the weekend, an increase of roughly 25% from its opening frame, as it expanded from 855 theaters to 2,655. Its domestic cumulative gross reached $45.1 million after 10 days, placing it among the highest-grossing non-music documentaries of all time. Its Friday haul of about $6.1 million was reported as the biggest second Friday ever for a documentary.
The overall North American box office totaled about $94.9 million for the weekend, up 21.8% from the comparable period a year earlier. Warner Bros. and DC's "Clayface" led with about $24 million (adding roughly $19 million internationally for a $43 million global start); Laika's stop-motion "Wildwood" placed third with about $11 million; "Street Fighter" was fourth with $8.6 million; and "Wicker" rounded out the top five with $5.75 million.
Directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, the nearly three-hour film was shot in secret over more than three years and follows Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes in the month before she began serving an 11-year federal prison sentence; Amanda Seyfried appears in the second half, participating in reenactments and on-camera responses. Variety reported a production budget of about $7 million. The film held a 98% critics score and a 96% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and Deadline reported that 66% of this weekend's audience was under 35. Awards talk is growing: if the film is nominated for the best picture Oscar, it would be the first documentary ever nominated for Hollywood's top prize.
