Follow-Up: Pennsylvania Measles Cases Reach 1,398 With 265 Hospitalizations; U.S. Total at 4,588
HARRISBURG, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania — Pennsylvania's measles case count rose to 1,398, the state Department of Health reported on October 28, an increase of 38 from its Monday, October 26 update, with 265 hospitalizations and five state-reported deaths.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is deploying additional support to the state. The CDC has confirmed three deaths linked to measles nationally, without specifying where they occurred.
CDC data through October 22 put the U.S. total at 4,588 cases this year, including 1,327 in Pennsylvania — a lower state figure than the state's own count of 1,398, reflecting a lag in the federal tally.
