Follow-Up: Israel's UN Ambassador Danon Responds to Vance: Striking Iran Was America's Decision and Israel Backed It

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · World · GSM News

Danny Danon, Israel's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, responded on November 4 to U.S. Vice President JD Vance's remarks linking the Republican Party's midterm election defeat to the war with Iran. In an interview, Danon said the decision to strike Iran was made by the United States, not by Israel; Israel supported the American effort and considers the decision to have been the right one.

Danon said that, unfortunately, many people have connected rising prices, especially oil prices, with Israel's situation, and that he believes this connection is behind the blame directed at Israel. Blaming Israel for everything is easy, he said, but it is not the case. He was also reported as saying that Israel would act to protect its own security.

In a long post after the midterm results, Vance named the Iran war as one of the roots of the Republican defeat, and President Trump himself acknowledged in post-election remarks that the war had affected the outcome. With Democrats retaking control of both houses of Congress, responsibility for the decision to go to war has become one of the focal points of Washington's post-election argument.

It was not Danon's first public statement on Iran this week. In a November 2 interview with Al Arabiya, he had already denied that Prime Minister Netanyahu had pressed Trump to resume strikes on Iran, and said Israel would support whatever decision the United States made. His post-election remarks go further in assigning the decision to strike to Washington.
