Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · States · GSM News

Massachusetts held its midterm elections on November 3, 2026. Gov. Maura Healey and U.S. Sen. Edward Markey both won reelection, and Democrats won all nine of the state's U.S. House seats — including District 6, where Dan Koh became the state's first Asian American member of Congress. Of the nine statewide ballot questions, seven have been called: five passed and two were rejected. Below is a summary of the results, published for the record.

Governor and U.S. Senator

In the governor's race, Democratic incumbent Maura Healey received 1,561,541 votes, about 62.1%, winning a second term, with Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll reelected on the same ticket. Republican Michael Minogue received 869,696 votes, about 34.6%, and independent Andrea James received 84,528 votes. The Associated Press called the race for Healey at 8:01 p.m. ET on election night. In the U.S. Senate race, Democratic incumbent Edward Markey received 1,588,175 votes, about 63.3%, winning a third Senate term; Republican John Deaton received 809,520 votes, about 32.3%.

Other Statewide Offices

All other statewide offices were held by Democratic incumbents:

Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell won reelection.

Secretary of the Commonwealth William Francis Galvin won with 1,766,367 votes, about 71.1%, and will enter a ninth term, the longest tenure of any secretary of the commonwealth in state history.

Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg won reelection.

Auditor Diana DiZoglio won reelection.

Ballot Questions

The ballot carried nine statewide questions, with the following results.

Question 1, extending the Public Records Law to the governor's office and the Legislature — passed, 85.9% yes.

Question 2, allowing employees of the Committee for Public Counsel Services to bargain collectively — passed, 64.1% yes.

Question 3, adopting a top-two primary system and ending separate party primaries — rejected, 61.1% no.

Question 4, allowing same-day voter registration on Election Day — passed, 56.3% yes.

Question 5, changing the calculation of the state revenue cap — not yet called, with the no side leading 52.0%.

Question 6, creating the Nature for All conservation fund — passed, 60.8% yes.

Question 7, lowering minimum lot-size requirements for single-family homes — not yet called, with the no side leading 50.6%.

Question 8, repealing the legalization of recreational marijuana — rejected, 75.6% no, so legalization remains in place.

Question 9, retaining the firearms regulations of the 2024 gun law — passed, 66.9% yes.

U.S. House

Democrats won all nine U.S. House seats, unchanged from the pre-election 9–0 split, with no flips:

Richard Neal (District 1).

James McGovern (District 2, unopposed).

Lori Trahan (District 3).

Jake Auchincloss (District 4).

Katherine Clark (District 5, unopposed).

Dan Koh (District 6, newly elected with 206,244 votes).

Ayana Pressley (District 7, unopposed).

Stephen Lynch (District 8).

Bill Keating (District 9).

District 6 had been left open when Rep. Seth Moulton ran for the Senate, and fellow Democrat Dan Koh held it for the party.

Koh, a Korean American, is the first Asian American member of Congress from Massachusetts and the seventh Korean American in U.S. congressional history.

No Chinese American candidate won a House seat in the state this cycle.

State Legislature

In the state legislature, all 40 State Senate seats and all 160 State House seats were on the ballot. Democrats retained control of both chambers, keeping a supermajority in the House, with no change of control; exact post-election seat counts await official certification.

Counting and Certification

The Secretary of the Commonwealth does not release unofficial statewide results on election night, so the figures above are from the Associated Press count and remain unofficial. Local clerks must submit certified results within 15 days after review, and statewide certification is expected in early December. Questions 5 and 7 have not been called and are listed by their current leader only. Final results are subject to official certification. This summary reports the results as cast by all voters, without commentary.
