Mississippi 2026 Election Results: Senate Race Uncalled at 43 Votes, All Four House Incumbents Reelected

Mississippi held its midterm elections on November 3, 2026. The state had no gubernatorial election and no statewide ballot measures this year; the only statewide contests on the ballot were for U.S. senator and U.S. representative. The Senate race is uncalled with a margin of just 43 votes, and all four House incumbents were reelected. Below is a summary of the statewide ballot results, published for the record.
Governor and U.S. Senator
Governor: No election this year. Incumbent Gov. Tate Reeves (R) is next up for election in 2027.
U.S. Senator: Not yet called. Scott Colom (D) leads with 462,821 votes, 48.9%, over incumbent Cindy Hyde-Smith (R), 462,778 votes, 48.9%, a margin of just 43 votes; independent Ty Pinkins received 19,935 votes, 2.1%. The AP lists the race as Too Early to Call, with about 96% of the expected vote counted, and the margin was still 43 votes at a midday check on November 4.
Senate — ballots still outstanding: Affidavit ballots remain to be verified (voters have five business days to provide identification), mail-in absentee ballots postmarked by Election Day may arrive within five business days after the election, and 11 counties still had more than 10% of ballots unreported, including Hinds County, the state's most populous. Counties must certify results within 10 days, by November 13. The state's other senator, Roger Wicker (R), was not up this year and is next up in 2030.
Senate — rules note: Mississippi decides federal general elections by plurality: the top vote-getter wins, no majority is required, and state law provides no runoff for federal general elections, so this seat will not go to a runoff. The majority-and-runoff rule adopted for state statewide offices in 2020 does not apply to U.S. Senate races, and runoff rules for party primaries and special elections likewise do not apply to this regular general election. Mississippi also has no automatic recount law; a recount can only be ordered by a court. If Colom ultimately wins, he would be Mississippi's first elected Black U.S. senator since Reconstruction; the race is uncalled and this is background only.
Other Statewide Offices
Mississippi's statewide executive offices — governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general and others — were not on the 2026 ballot; they are next elected in 2027. The only statewide contests in 2026 were for U.S. senator and U.S. representative.
Ballot Measures and Constitutional Amendments
Mississippi had no statewide ballot measures or constitutional amendments in 2026.
U.S. House Delegation
Overview: Mississippi has four U.S. House seats: three Republicans and one Democrat, unchanged from before the election. All four incumbents were reelected and no seat flipped.
District 1: Trent Kelly (R) won reelection. Called by the AP.
District 2: Bennie Thompson (D) won reelection. Called by the AP.
District 3: Michael Guest (R) won reelection. Called by the AP.
District 4: Mike Ezell (R) won reelection. Called by the AP.
Chinese American / Asian American check: No Chinese American or Asian American was found among the four winners.
State Legislature
State Senate: No state legislative elections were held in 2026 (Mississippi elects its legislators in odd-numbered years, next in 2027). Republicans remain in control, with no flip.
State House: No state legislative elections were held in 2026; Republicans remain in control, with no flip. A handful of special elections were held, including a House District 77 special election that goes to a runoff on December 1, 2026 — a state-level contest unrelated to the U.S. Senate race.
All figures are semi-official results from the Mississippi Secretary of State and Associated Press data. Absentee and affidavit ballots are still being processed; the Senate race lists only the current leader and is not final. Final results rest with county certification, due by November 13, 2026. This summary reports the results as cast by all voters, without commentary.
