New Jersey 2026 Election Results: Booker Wins Third Full Senate Term as Democrats Take Ten House Seats

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · States · GSM News

New Jersey held its midterm elections on November 3, 2026. With no governor's race this year, the ballot centered on a U.S. Senate seat and the state's 12 U.S. House seats. Sen. Cory Booker won a third full term, and Democrats have won 10 House seats in called races while leading in one more; Republicans have held just one seat. On current leads, the delegation would stand at 11 Democrats and 1 Republican, a net Democratic gain of two. Below is a summary of the results, published for the record.

Governor and U.S. Senator

New Jersey elects its governor in odd years, so there was no gubernatorial election in 2026. Gov. Mikie Sherrill, a Democrat elected in 2025 who took office in January 2026, is the state's 57th governor and the second woman to hold the office; the next governor's race is in 2029. In the U.S. Senate race, Democratic incumbent Cory Booker received 1,754,917 votes, 62.33%, defeating Republican Justin Murphy, who received 988,046 votes, 35.09%. The Associated Press has called the race, giving Booker a third full term. The state's other senator, Andy Kim, an Asian American, was not on this year's ballot; his seat is next up in 2030.

Other Statewide Offices

New Jersey's attorney general and secretary of state are appointed by the governor rather than elected, so no other statewide offices were contested this year. The lieutenant governor is elected on the governor's ticket and was likewise not on the 2026 ballot.

Ballot Questions

New Jersey had no statewide public question on the 2026 ballot. Local questions appearing on some municipal and county ballots, such as open-space funds, are not statewide measures and are not listed here.

U.S. House

For the U.S. House, New Jersey has 12 seats. One seat has flipped in a called race: in District 7, Democrat Rebecca Bennett defeated incumbent Republican Tom Kean Jr., 57.1% to 41.4%, in a race called by the AP. In District 2, Democrat Zack Mullock leads incumbent Republican Jeff Van Drew, 51.06% to 47.88%; Van Drew has conceded, but the AP has not yet called the seat. Republican Chris Smith won reelection in District 4 with 59.12% and is the delegation's only Republican in a called race.

The remaining winners, all Democrats in races called by the AP, are:

Donald Norcross in District 1 (72.97%).

Herb Conaway in District 3 (about 62.43%).

Josh Gottheimer in District 5 (about 62.39%).

Frank Pallone Jr. in District 6 (about 69.06%).

Rob Menendez in District 8 (about 88.6%).

Nellie Pou in District 9 (about 66.7%).

LaMonica McIver in District 10 (about 84.4%).

Analilia Mejia in District 11 (about 61%).

Adam Hamawy in District 12 (about 70.2%).

Hamawy is New Jersey's first Muslim American member of Congress.

Mejia first won District 11 in an April special election and has now won a full term.

No Chinese American candidate won a House seat in New Jersey this cycle.

State Legislature

New Jersey's legislature — the State Senate and General Assembly — is elected in odd years, so no state legislative seats were on the 2026 ballot. Democrats continue to control both chambers, with no change.

Counting and Certification

All figures above come from county official counts and Associated Press calls. Mail ballots postmarked by Election Day and received by November 9 are still being counted. District 2 has not been called and is listed by its current leader only. Final results are subject to certification by the secretary of state. This summary reports the results as cast by all voters, without commentary.
