New York 2026 Election Results: Hochul Reelected Governor, Grace Meng Holds House Seat

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · States · GSM News

New York held its midterm elections on November 3, 2026. Governor Kathy Hochul won reelection in a race called by the Associated Press; the attorney general and comptroller, both Democratic incumbents, also won new terms. Of the state's 26 U.S. House seats, Democrats have secured 19 called seats and lead toward 20, and Chinese American Rep. Grace Meng won reelection. Democrats kept control of both chambers of the state legislature, regaining a two-thirds supermajority in the State Senate. Below is a summary of the statewide ballot results, published for the record.

Governor

In the governor's race, Democratic incumbent Kathy Hochul received 3,565,798 votes, about 60.0%, defeating Republican Bruce Blakeman, who received 2,364,470 votes, about 39.8%. Hochul will serve a second full term. The AP called the race shortly after polls closed, and Blakeman conceded by phone; the lieutenant governor candidate on Hochul's ticket was elected with her. Hochul is New York's first woman governor. New York had no U.S. Senate election this year: Sen. Chuck Schumer is next up in 2028 and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in 2030, both Democrats.

Other Statewide Offices

In the other statewide races, Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat, won a third term with about 60.1% against Republican Saritha Komatireddy's roughly 39.8%; James is the first Black woman elected to statewide office in New York

Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, a Democrat, won reelection with about 63% in the State Board of Elections' unofficial count, against Republican Joseph Hernandez at about 34%, who has conceded

New York's secretary of state is an appointed office and was not on the ballot.

Ballot and Local Questions

New York had no statewide ballot propositions or constitutional amendments this year. For the record, New York City's five charter amendments, which apply only within the city, all passed in races called by the AP:

Proposal 1, streamlining approvals for uses of public space such as outdoor dining and accessibility ramps, passed with about 63.4% yes.

Proposal 2, reforming contracting and procurement for small businesses and nonprofits, about 61.8% yes.

Proposal 3, speeding street-safety projects and the leasing and activation of city-owned land, about 65.7% yes.

Proposal 4, streamlining the building permit process, about 67.7% yes.

Proposal 5, requiring deposits into a rainy-day reserve fund, about 72.5% yes.

U.S. House

For the U.S. House, New York has 26 seats.

The AP has called 19 for Democrats and 3 for Republicans, with four seats not yet called: Democrats lead in District 17 and Republicans lead in Districts 1, 2 and 21.

On current leads, the delegation stands at 20 Democrats and 6 Republicans, a net gain of one seat for Democrats.

The cycle's only flip is District 17, where Democrat Cait Conley leads incumbent Republican Mike Lawler, who conceded on election night.

The AP has not formally called the seat.

In the other uncalled races, incumbent Republican Nicholas LaLota leads Democrat Christopher Gallant 51.1% to 48.9% in District 1.

incumbent Republican Andrew Garbarino leads Democrat Patrick Halpin 51.1% to 48.8% in District 2.

in District 21, the seat vacated by Elise Stefanik, Republican Anthony Constantino leads Democrat Blake Gendebien by about 1.9 points and has declared himself the winner.

Chinese American Rep. Grace Meng won reelection in District 6 with 92,474 votes, about 69%, against Republican Joseph Chou's 41,225 votes. No other Chinese American appears among the state's House winners and leaders this cycle. Claire Valdez, newly elected in District 7, will become the first Native American woman to represent New York in Congress.

State Legislature

In the state legislature, Democrats kept control of the 63-seat State Senate and regained a two-thirds supermajority — one tally puts the Democratic caucus at about 47 seats, pending official certification — and held their supermajority in the 150-seat Assembly, with no change of control in either chamber. Chinese American candidates also won state-level races: in State Senate District 17, Democrat Larry He defeated incumbent Republican Sen. Steve Chan by about 57% to 42%, and in Assembly District 49, Democrat Joyce Xiaoqiong Xie defeated incumbent Republican Assemblymember Lester Chang by about 52% to 47%, per the Board of Elections' unofficial count.

Counting and Certification

All figures above are unofficial results from the New York State Board of Elections and Associated Press calls. Mail ballots and ballots delayed in some counties, including Westchester County, are still being counted. The four races marked not yet called list only the current leader and are not final. Final results are subject to state certification. This summary reports the results as cast by all voters, without commentary.
