Illinois 2026 Election Results: Pritzker Wins Third Term, Stratton Takes U.S. Senate Seat

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · States · GSM News

Illinois held its midterm elections on November 3, 2026. Gov. JB Pritzker won a third term, becoming the first Democratic governor in state history to win three consecutive terms, and Democrat Juliana Stratton took the U.S. Senate seat left open by Dick Durbin's retirement. Democrats won every statewide office, including attorney general, secretary of state, comptroller and treasurer, and the U.S. House delegation held steady at 14 Democrats and 3 Republicans, with no seat changing parties. Below is a summary of the results, published for the record.

Governor and U.S. Senator

In the governor's race, Democratic incumbent JB Pritzker received 59.8% (2,295,866 votes), defeating Republican Darren Bailey at 36.9% (1,416,174 votes) and independent Collin Corbett at 3.3%; Lt. Gov. Christian Mitchell was elected on the same ticket. The Associated Press called the race for Pritzker as polls closed. In the U.S. Senate race, Durbin, in office since 1997, retired, and Democrat Juliana Stratton, the sitting lieutenant governor, received 61.0% (2,422,237 votes), defeating Republican Don Tracy at 37.5% (1,487,301 votes) to hold the seat for her party. Stratton is the state's second Black woman U.S. senator, and she and Sen. Tammy Duckworth, who was not up for reelection this year, make Illinois the first state represented by two women of color in the Senate at the same time.

Other Statewide Offices

The remaining statewide offices were all won by Democrats in races called by the AP:

Attorney General Kwame Raoul won reelection with 61.5%.

Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias won reelection with 64.7%.

Margaret Croke was newly elected comptroller with 61.0%, the first new comptroller in nearly a decade.

Treasurer Michael Frerichs won a fourth term with 62.1%.

Ballot and Local Questions

Illinois had no statewide referendum or constitutional amendment on the 2026 ballot. For the record, Chicago voters faced five local questions, two of them advisory.

the AP has not called any of them, and the yes side leads in all five: restoring gunshot-detection technology, with yes leading 72.5%.

building a permanent festival and outdoor-events venue, 67.9%.

seeking federal reimbursement for the cost of federal immigration enforcement in Chicago, 84.9%.

an advisory question on a millionaires tax funding K-12 education, 80.7%.

an advisory question on penalties for vacant or underused properties funding public schools, 73.8%.

U.S. House

All 17 U.S. House races have been called, with Democrats holding 14 seats and Republicans 3, identical to the pre-election split and with no district changing parties

District 1: Jonathan Jackson (Democratic).

District 2: Donna Miller (Democratic).

District 3: Delia Ramirez (Democratic).

District 4: Patty Garcia (Democratic).

District 5: Mike Quigley (Democratic).

District 6: Sean Casten (Democratic).

District 16: Darin LaHood (Republican).

The winners in Districts 2, 4, 7 and 9 are newcomers succeeding fellow Democrats who retired or sought other office

In District 8, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, an Indian American, ran for the Senate this cycle and lost the Democratic primary; fellow Democrat Melissa Bean held his seat

None of the 17 House winners is of Chinese or Asian descent.

State Legislature

In the state legislature, Democrats retained control of both the State Senate and the State House, with state reporting indicating their supermajorities grew; neither chamber changed hands. Final seat counts await confirmation by the State Board of Elections.

Counting and Certification

The figures above are unofficial counts and Associated Press calls. County canvasses and state certification are still in progress, and Chicago's five local questions have not been called and are listed by their current leader only. Final results are subject to official certification. This summary reports the results as cast by all voters, without commentary.
