Follow-Up: Cooley Fire Crews Begin Suppression Repair in Mendocino County; No Active Fire Seen Inside Perimeter, No Structures Damaged

In Mendocino County, California, the Cooley Fire has entered a new phase of operations. In its latest update at 7:10 p.m. on October 19, CAL FIRE said firefighters are securing established control lines to reinforce the fire perimeter. While unburned pockets of fuel remain within the footprint, no active fire is currently observed in those interior zones. As suppression operations continue, crews have begun suppression repair efforts to mitigate impacts on the landscape.
CAL FIRE reported earlier that afternoon that the fire had burned 1,364 acres and reached 45% containment as of 5:21 p.m. Because the fire burns in remote, exceptionally steep terrain, mobile water supply remains critical: tactical water tenders are delivering thousands of gallons directly to the front line, refilling engines, supplying portable tanks and keeping hose lays charged. Aviation resources had logged 96.62 daytime flight hours and 15.70 nighttime hours as of October 19, dropping 216,600 gallons of water and 297,510 gallons of retardant.
Damage Inspection Specialists are monitoring the burn area, and to date no structures have been reported damaged or destroyed, CAL FIRE said. The fire information board is located in front of the Yorkville Post Office at 25400 CA-128 in Yorkville and is updated daily. Crews remain focused on protecting adjacent communities and achieving full containment.
