The Cooley Fire, burning near Yorkville west of Cloverdale in Mendocino County, California, is now 86% contained. In an incident update posted at 5:24 p.m. on October 23, CAL FIRE said firefighters made great progress that day, focusing on extinguishing hotspots and strengthening containment lines to help secure the fire perimeter. Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) were also used to support ground crews by helping locate hotspots and identify areas needing additional attention.

According to CAL FIRE's incident page, containment was first reported at 86% at 5:16 p.m. on October 23, and an update at 6:04 p.m. put the number of personnel assigned to the incident at 71. The page's resources list also shows 7 engines and 50 other assigned personnel, with numerous air tankers from across the state flying suppression missions as conditions allow.

The fire started at 5:05 p.m. on October 16 near Elkhorn Road and Cooley Ranch Road, west of Cloverdale, and has burned 1,365 acres. Its cause remains under investigation, and the incident is under the jurisdiction of the CAL FIRE Mendocino Unit. CAL FIRE has previously said no structures were damaged or destroyed in this incident, and no evacuation orders have been issued in its official updates.

GSM previously reported that the fire stood at 80% containment on October 22, when command had transitioned to the CAL FIRE Mendocino Unit under a three-day plan with resource levels being reduced. The above is based on CAL FIRE's official incident page updates of October 23.
