Los Angeles Mayor Count Update: Raman Leads Bass by 26,124 Votes at 405,193 to 379,069

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · Cities · GSM News

LOS ANGELES, California — The latest count released by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder on the afternoon of November 4 showed Councilmember Nithya Raman leading incumbent Mayor Karen Bass with 405,193 votes, or 51.67%, to Bass's 379,069 votes, or 48.33%, a margin of 26,124 votes with about 72% of the expected vote counted. As GSM reported earlier in the day, Decision Desk HQ has projected Raman the winner of the mayoral race; the projection is not an official certification, and the county count is continuing.

Compared with the 3 a.m. snapshot reported earlier in the day, Raman's lead has widened markedly: at that point Raman had 377,458 votes and Bass 360,864, a gap of 16,594 votes. The new batch brought the total counted to 784,262 votes. California's post-election count traditionally takes days: under state rules, mail ballots postmarked by Election Day can still be counted if they arrive within seven days after Election Day.

California political strategist Dan Schnur told the New York Post that Raman's strength among younger voters could make the deficit especially difficult for Bass to overcome, because Raman's supporters tend to vote later and their ballots are counted last; he stressed, however, that "nothing is definite," while adding that Raman is "in a very strong and advantageous position at this point."

Raman was first elected to the City Council in 2020 and reelected in 2024; in the June primary count she likewise overtook her opponent as additional ballots were tallied, earning the November showdown against Bass. The mayoral outcome will decide who leads the nation's second-largest city into the 2028 Olympic Games.
