Follow-Up: Iranian Media Say Two Projectiles Struck the Suza Area of Qeshm Island; No Official Word on Damage

Qeshm Island — Reuters reported on November 6, citing Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency, that initial reports indicated two missiles had struck Iran's southern Qeshm Island, adding that there was no official information on possible damage and that further details would be released once the relevant authorities confirmed the incident. The state news agency IRNA had earlier reported that local witnesses said two projectiles struck the Suza area of Qeshm Island after the sound of an aircraft was heard over the island.
Iran's Fars news agency, for its part, reported that explosions had been heard in recent hours on Qeshm Island and around Bandar Khamir in Hormozgan province, and that the nature and cause of the explosions were not yet clear; Fars said the sounds might be related to warning shots fired toward the Strait of Hormuz, a hypothesis it did not confirm and without identifying who fired them. Tasnim also said the loud overflight of a fighter jet over Qeshm had alarmed residents and brought citizens out of their homes, and that official sources had not commented on the overflight.
Qeshm Island sits at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz. GSM previously reported that U.S. forces carried out limited strikes on the island on November 2, described as a response to Iranian fire on U.S. aircraft; since then, the United States and Iran have stayed in contact through intermediaries including Qatar, Iran has conveyed a nuclear proposal to Washington, and a Russia-U.S.-Ukraine meeting is set for November 10–11 in Abu Dhabi. Neither the origin of this latest round of projectiles nor who was responsible has been officially confirmed. (Source: Reuters)
