Follow-Up: Two Missiles Land at Aden Airport With No Casualties Reported; Saudi-Led Coalition Says It Intercepted a Missile Headed for Yanbu

Aden — Missiles struck Aden International Airport in southern Yemen on Friday, October 16, Reuters reported. The Aden Security Department said two missiles landed on the airport grounds while a Yemenia Airways flight bound for Cairo was preparing for takeoff, and that no casualties were reported. The department blamed the Iran-aligned Houthi group and said it was the second attack on the facility in less than a week; the Houthis did not immediately claim responsibility.

The Saudi-led military coalition said the same day that it had intercepted a ballistic missile headed for the Red Sea city of Yanbu, destroyed two cruise missiles over the Red Sea and brought down three drones in Saudi Arabia's southern and Riyadh regions, without identifying who was behind the attacks. Yanbu is a key outlet for Saudi oil exports that bypasses the Strait of Hormuz. Saudi Civil Defense authorities had earlier issued alerts in the Jazan region and the southwestern city of Khamis Mushait.

Aden hosts the seat of Yemen's internationally recognised government. GSM reported on October 15 that Houthi missiles had struck the presidential palace in Aden. Reuters said aid agencies have warned that humanitarian conditions in Yemen are worsening rapidly.
