Yemen: WHO Medical Kits Reach Hospitals in Besieged Taiz City

Friday, October 30, 2026 · World · GSM News

The World Health Organization has delivered trauma and emergency surgical supply kits to hospitals in Taiz City, Yemen. According to a UN update on October 29, the kits arrived at the weekend, are being shared among facilities in the city, and the WHO reported the delivery on Wednesday, October 28.

Taiz City is almost entirely surrounded by Houthi forces. Shortages have badly affected the health system: midwives have stopped working because of movement restrictions, medicines, fuel and water are in short supply, and waste piling up in the streets is raising the risk of disease outbreaks.

GSM previously reported that the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said on October 28 that fighting in Taiz this month had forced more than 82,000 people to flee and pushed prices up by at least 50 percent. Taiz has been among the most contested areas since Yemen's civil war escalated again in October 2026.

In Marib governorate, only 6 of 31 mobile medical teams are still operating and 15 health facilities have closed.
