Russia Strikes Ukraine Again Overnight: 128 Drones and Two Anti-Ship Missiles; Postal Hub and Cargo Ship Hit

KYIV, Ukraine — Russian forces launched another large-scale air attack on Ukraine overnight from November 4 to 5. Ukraine's Air Force reported that Russia fired two Kh-35 anti-ship missiles and 128 drones of various types, including 65 jet-powered drones, during the night. The Institute for the Study of War cited the figures in its November 5 campaign assessment.
Russia's Defence Ministry said on November 5 that its forces had hit logistics and transport targets in various regions of Ukraine overnight: a Nova Poshta logistics hub in the Kharkiv region, railway locomotives and an industrial building at Thermal Power Plant 2, a power station in the Dnipropetrovsk region, and a cargo vessel at sea 52 kilometres southwest of the Black Sea port of Odesa. The ministry said the logistics hub was used by the Ukrainian military to assemble drones. Reuters said it could not independently verify the Russian claims.
DTEK, Ukraine's largest energy company, reported that Russian forces have struck Ukrainian power plants and electricity transmission facilities 78 times since around November 2, compared with 11 such strikes throughout all of 2022, and that three of its power plants suspended operations following strikes on November 3. State energy operator Ukrenergo reported new power outages in Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Chernihiv and Cherkasy oblasts due to the overnight strikes.
Ukraine struck back with hundreds of drones at Russian targets, and the Russian Defence Ministry said its forces shot down nearly 500 drones overnight. On the diplomatic front, Ukraine's lead negotiator Rustem Umerov said talks in Brussels on post-war reconstruction entered a second day on November 5, covering funding for 2027 and security guarantees backed by Ukraine's Western allies.
