Follow-up: Trump Confirms U.S. Struck Qeshm Island Again on Friday, Says a New Air-Defence Installation Was Destroyed

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida — President Donald Trump told reporters in West Palm Beach on Friday, November 6, that U.S. forces had carried out a new round of limited strikes on Iran that day, targeting an air-defence system on Qeshm Island in southern Iran. His remarks confirmed the source of the explosions reported earlier the same day on the island.
Trump said Iran had built a small anti-aircraft installation and that U.S. forces knocked it out in about 15 minutes, maybe five. He described the operation as a minor strike and said talks with Iran were making progress and that Tehran wanted a deal. Iranian state media had reported two explosions in the Suza area of Qeshm Island, and state broadcaster IRIB cited an Iranian army statement saying air defences had intercepted and destroyed a U.S. MQ-9 drone over the island. A U.S. Central Command official said the situation was relatively calm and declined further comment; the United States has not confirmed any drone loss.
The strikes were the first against Iran since the November 3 midterm elections and the second attack on Qeshm Island within a week, after U.S. forces struck the island on November 2 in what officials called a response to Iranian fire on U.S. aircraft. They came on the same day Trump wrote to Congress saying hostilities with Iran had terminated; the White House offered no further explanation of how the strikes he called minor fit that position. Qeshm Island sits at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz, where U.S. and Iranian blockades remain in place while talks continue through Qatari and other mediators. (Source: The Associated Press)
