Louisiana Senate Election: AP Calls Race for Letlow in a Narrow Win by About 26,000 Votes

The Associated Press called Louisiana's U.S. Senate race on the evening of November 3 for Republican U.S. Representative Julia Letlow, who defeated Democratic candidate Jamie Davis to succeed Senator Bill Cassidy, who lost his party's primary. Louisiana is on the Gulf Coast in the southern United States, and its capital is Baton Rouge.
The AP results page snapshot showed all 3,722 precincts reporting, with an estimated 99 percent of the vote counted; Letlow had 745,963 votes, or 50.88 percent, to Davis's 720,106 votes, or 49.12 percent, a margin of 25,857 votes that was far narrower than expected before Election Day.
Letlow has represented Louisiana's 5th Congressional District and advanced to the general election after defeating Cassidy in the Republican primary with President Donald Trump's endorsement. Her victory gives Republicans a sixth straight win in Louisiana Senate elections and keeps the seat in Republican hands. Results are unofficial until certified by the secretary of state.
