Oklahoma Governor Election: AP Calls Race for Mazzei

The Associated Press called Oklahoma's governor's race on the evening of November 3 for Republican Mike Mazzei, who defeated Democratic candidate and state House Minority Leader Cyndi Munson to succeed term-limited Governor Kevin Stitt. Oklahoma is in the south-central United States, and its capital is Oklahoma City.
The AP results page snapshot showed 1,947 of the state's 1,984 precincts reporting, about 98.14 percent, with an estimated 97.48 percent of the vote counted; Mazzei had 570,461 votes (about 52.0 percent) to Munson's 503,491 (about 45.9 percent), with three independent candidates combining for about 24,000 votes. The AP declared Mazzei the winner at 11:46 p.m. Eastern on November 3, and Munson conceded that night.
Mazzei, who heads a Tulsa investment management firm, is a former state senator who served as budget secretary under Stitt; he ran with President Donald Trump's endorsement and put more than $12 million of his own money into the campaign. Republicans thereby keep hold of the governor's office. Results are unofficial until canvassing and certification by the state election board.
