Israeli UN Envoy Danon Denies Netanyahu Is Pressing Trump to Resume Strikes on Iran

Danny Danon, Israel's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, told Al Arabiya English on Monday, November 2, that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not pressing U.S. President Donald Trump to resume strikes on Iran, saying Israel will support whatever decision Washington makes and is not dictating U.S. policy.
Danon was responding to reporting published a day earlier. According to Axios, which cited one Israeli source and one U.S. source on November 1, Netanyahu pressed Trump during a phone call on Saturday, October 31, to resume large-scale strikes on Iran immediately after the November 3 midterm elections, while Trump preferred to let negotiations with Tehran continue for now. The Israeli source described the call as "tough" and the U.S. source called it "direct"; the White House and the Israeli prime minister's office declined to comment. The Wall Street Journal first reported the call.
Trump confirmed on November 1 that he had held a "very good" call with Netanyahu the previous day and that the two discussed Iran; he had earlier said talks with Iran were "going fine" and that he was in no hurry. On November 2, asked by a reporter after a campaign event whether he was considering striking Iran after the midterms, Trump replied "No," and told Axios in an interview that the United States would do something one way or another but that there was "no rush." Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said Trump has not yet decided whether to strike Iran again.
In the same interview, Danon rejected U.S. commentator Tucker Carlson's claim that Washington could be preparing a nuclear strike on Iran, calling the idea "delusional" and saying no one in the United States or Israel was even discussing it. Defending Israel's conduct in the Gaza war, Danon said Israeli forces had done everything possible to minimize civilian casualties: "We are a moral nation, a moral country. There are no atrocities."
The same day, Vice President JD Vance said U.S. talks with Iran were making progress and that Washington had set no deadline for resuming strikes, while U.S. forces carried out a limited strike on Iran's Qeshm Island near the Strait of Hormuz that U.S. officials said answered Iranian fire on U.S. aircraft.
