Iran Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf on US Midterm Results: Says Americans Said No to War

Tehran, Iran — Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, speaker of Iran's parliament and Tehran's chief negotiator in talks with the United States, posted on X on November 4 in response to the US midterm election results, saying Americans had said no to war and that Iran endorses that message.
Ghalibaf wrote that Americans had rejected war, whether out of conscience or because of the cost of living. He also warned that if the US government betrays the public will to serve what he called international paymasters and blackmailers, it will learn what Iran's refusal means.
Media outlets have projected that Democrats will regain both the House and the Senate in the November 3 midterms, a major setback for President Donald Trump and the Republican Party. Trump himself has acknowledged that the war against Iran was one reason for the Republican losses.
Ghalibaf's remarks came as Qatar intensifies mediation between Washington and Tehran. GSM has reported that US-Iran contacts through Qatari mediation continue, and that Iran wants a clear US response to, and implementation of, its conditions before the Strait of Hormuz can reopen.
