Putin Meets Iran's Security Council Secretary Rezaei at the Kremlin: Visitor Delivers a Message From Mojtaba Khamenei

Moscow — Russian President Vladimir Putin met Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, at the Kremlin on November 5, Reuters reported. The Kremlin confirmed the meeting and released a photograph showing presidential foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov and military intelligence chief Igor Kostyukov also in the Russian delegation. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the talks but gave no details of the topics discussed or any decisions taken.
Iranian state media said Rezaei delivered a message from Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei to Putin during the meeting; the contents of the message were not disclosed. The meeting came three days after the two men spoke by telephone on November 2. Neither Moscow nor Tehran announced any new agreement or joint decision afterwards.
Rezaei later gave his own account of the talks on Iranian state television: he said Putin pledged to do everything in his power to end the war, condemned the U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran as unjust, and backed regional security arrangements without foreign interference. He said the two sides also discussed postwar arrangements, a four-country meeting he had taken part in in Tehran, and building gas pipelines from Russia to Iran. Those characterizations of Putin's remarks come from Rezaei and Iranian state media; the Kremlin has not confirmed them in the same terms.
