Nebraska Governor Election: AP Calls Race for Pillen, Winning Second Term Over Walz

The Associated Press has called Nebraska's governor race for Republican incumbent Jim Pillen, who defeated Democratic candidate Lynne Walz. Nebraska is in the Great Plains region of the central United States, its capital is Lincoln, and Pillen will begin a second term as governor.
The AP results page snapshot (Race 28006) showed 1,139 of the state's 1,322 precincts reporting, about 86.16 percent, with an estimated 86.16 percent of the vote counted; Pillen had 354,952 votes and Walz 301,711, a margin of about 53,000 votes. Counting continues and totals will change.
Pillen, a veterinarian and farm operator, was first elected governor in 2022. Walz, a former state senator, won the Democratic nomination in May with about 91.5 percent of the vote before challenging Pillen.
Republicans hold the Nebraska Governor's Office. Results are unofficial until state canvassing and certification are complete.
