Nebraska Senate Election: AP Calls Race for Ricketts, Winning Re-election Over Independent Osborn

The Associated Press has called Nebraska's U.S. Senate race for Republican incumbent Senator Pete Ricketts, who defeated independent candidate Dan Osborn. Nebraska is in the Great Plains region of the central United States, its capital is Lincoln, and Ricketts will continue to represent the state in the U.S. Senate.
The AP results page snapshot (Race 28594) showed 1,147 of the state's 1,322 precincts reporting, about 86.76 percent, with an estimated 86.76 percent of the vote counted; Ricketts had 357,769 votes and Osborn 297,366, a margin of about 60,000 votes, while Legal Marijuana NOW candidate Kerry Janicek had 27,516. Counting continues and totals will change.
Ricketts, a former Nebraska governor, was appointed to the U.S. Senate in 2023 to succeed Ben Sasse, who had resigned, and won the 2024 special election. Osborn, a union leader from Omaha, ran a close independent challenge against Senator Deb Fischer in 2024 but fell short again this year.
Republicans hold Nebraska's U.S. Senate seat. Results are unofficial until state canvassing and certification are complete.
