Follow-Up: AP Calls Oregon Governor's Race for Kotek, Winning Re-election Over Drazan

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

The Associated Press called Oregon's governor's race at 12:49 a.m. ET on November 4 for Democratic incumbent Governor Tina Kotek, who won re-election by defeating Republican candidate Christine Drazan. Oregon is in the northwestern United States, and its capital, Salem, is in Marion County.

At the time of the call, an estimated 74 percent of the vote had been counted: Kotek had 782,988 votes, or 51.9 percent, and Drazan had 682,855 votes, or 45.3 percent, a margin of 100,133 votes, about 6.6 percentage points. Pacific Green Party candidate Brett Smith had 39,647 votes, or 2.6 percent, and there were 1,859 write-in votes. Counting continues and totals will change; mail ballots postmarked by Election Day and received within seven days are still counted.

GSM reported on election night, November 3, that Kotek declared victory at about 9:30 p.m. at a celebration in Portland, and that CBS and Decision Desk HQ had also called the race for her, but the Associated Press had not yet called it and Drazan had not conceded at that time. The AP call marks the new stage at which the result has been formally called by the AP.

This was a rematch of the 2022 race, which Kotek won by about four percentage points; Oregon has not elected a Republican governor since 1982. Kotek will begin her second term as governor. Results are unofficial until state canvassing and certification are complete.
