Florida Election Results: Republicans Hold Governor and Senate Seats, Lose House Supermajority

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · States · GSM News

Here is the full list of Florida results from the 2026 midterm elections. Republicans held the governorship, the U.S. Senate seat and all three elected state cabinet offices, though by much narrower margins in several races; Democrats broke the Republican supermajority in the state House. A total of 8,326,814 ballots were cast statewide, a turnout of 60.76% of registered voters. The statewide list follows.

Governor and U.S. Senator

Governor: Byron Donalds (Republican) received 4,132,275 votes, about 50.0%, defeating David Jolly (Democrat), who received 4,024,554 votes, about 48.7%. The margin of about 108,000 votes, or 1.3 percentage points, is above Florida's 0.5-point threshold for an automatic machine recount, and the Associated Press has called the race for Donalds. Incumbent Governor Ron DeSantis was term-limited, making this an open seat. Bryan Avila (Republican), running on the same ticket, was elected lieutenant governor. Donalds will become Florida's first Black governor.

U.S. Senator (special election): Ashley Moody (Republican) received 4,207,947 votes (50.9%), defeating Angie Nixon (Democrat), who received 3,969,186 votes (48.0%); the AP has called the race. This was a special election for the seat vacated when Marco Rubio became U.S. secretary of state. Moody will serve the remainder of the term, and the seat will be up for election again in 2028.

Other Statewide Offices

Attorney General: James Uthmeier (Republican) defeated José Javier Rodríguez (Democrat), about 51% to 49%.

Chief Financial Officer: Blaise Ingoglia (Republican) defeated Annette Taddeo (Democrat), about 51% to 49%.

Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services: Wilton Simpson (Republican) defeated Joey Mendoza Atkins (Democrat), about 51% to 49%; the AP has called the race for Simpson.

Florida's secretary of state is appointed by the governor rather than elected, so there was no election for that office this year.

Ballot Questions

Florida constitutional amendments require 60% approval to pass. There were three on this year's ballot:

Amendment 1 (raise the cap on the state Budget Stabilization Fund): would raise the fund's cap from 10% to 25% of net general revenue — FAILED. Yes votes totaled 3,170,557 (40.9%), short of the 60% threshold.

Amendment 2 (tangible personal property tax exemption for agricultural land): would exempt farm equipment and other tangible personal property on agricultural land from property taxes — FAILED. Yes votes totaled 4,542,890 (58.2%), a majority but short of the 60% threshold.

Amendment 3 (new homestead exemption): would substantially raise the homestead property tax exemption, to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028, and adjust assessment caps for non-homestead property — PASSED. Yes votes totaled 4,917,796 (62.0%), clearing the 60% threshold.

Of the three statewide amendments, one passed and two failed.

U.S. House

Florida has 28 seats in the U.S. House. The AP has called 23 seats, with 5 not yet called. Combining called seats with the leaders in uncalled races, Republicans hold 20 seats (16 called) and Democrats 8 (7 called), the same 20-to-8 split as before the election. No called seat changed parties.

The five uncalled seats and their current leaders: District 7 — Ryan Elijah (Republican) leads Bale Dalton (Democrat), 49.8% to 49.2%. District 9 — incumbent Darren Soto (Democrat) leads Dan Green (Republican), 50.3% to 49.7%.

District 13 — incumbent Anna Paulina Luna (Republican) leads Leela Gray (Democrat), about 49.5% to 48.7%. District 26 — incumbent Mario Diaz-Balart (Republican) leads Nicole Locklin (Democrat), 49.9% to 49.1%. District 27 — incumbent Maria Elvira Salazar (Republican) leads Eliott Rodriguez (Democrat), 50.2% to 49.7%.

Asian American winners: In District 22, Pia Dandiya (Democrat), who is Indian American, won with 51.9%, becoming the first Indian American elected to Congress from Florida. There are no Chinese American winners in this year's Florida delegation.

State Legislature

The state House remains under Republican control, but Republicans have lost their supermajority: 65 Republican and 49 Democratic seats have been called, with 6 uncalled, and even winning every uncalled seat would leave Republicans short of the 80 of 120 seats needed for a supermajority. Democrats, who held 34 seats before the election, have gained at least 15 seats among those called.

The state Senate also remains under Republican control: 22 Republican and 13 Democratic seats have been called, 4 seats are uncalled (with Republicans leading), and 1 seat is vacant following the lieutenant governor's election and awaits a special election. Whether Republicans retain a Senate supermajority (27 of 40 seats) has not yet been determined. One Senate seat flipped: in District 10, John Lowndes (Democrat) defeated Republican incumbent Jason Brodeur, 56% to 44%.

Counting and Certification

These results are the collective choices of Florida voters. The figures above come from the Florida Division of Elections' semi-official (unofficial) count and Associated Press race calls. Mail ballots are still being counted; races not yet called are listed by their current leaders only, and final results are subject to state certification, expected on November 17.
