Wisconsin 2026 Election Results: Crowley Elected Governor, Hmong American Yee Leng Xiong Elected State Treasurer, Legislature Flips Blue

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · States · GSM News

Governor and U.S. Senator

Wisconsin voted in the 2026 midterm elections on November 3. The results below are the collective choice of the state's voters. According to the Wisconsin Elections Commission's official count and Associated Press race calls, David Crowley was elected governor with 54.08% and will be the state's first Black governor. No U.S. Senate seat was on the ballot. Democrats swept all four partisan statewide offices — governor, attorney general, secretary of state and treasurer — including Yee Leng Xiong, who was elected treasurer and becomes the first Hmong American ever elected to a statewide office in the United States. Two of the three constitutional amendments passed. Both chambers of the legislature flipped to Democrats, giving Wisconsin its first Democratic trifecta since 2010.

Governor: David Crowley (D), 1,438,721 votes, 54.08%, elected. Gov. Tony Evers did not seek reelection; the open seat was a Democratic hold. Called by the AP. Crowley will be Wisconsin's first Black governor.

Governor, other candidate: Tom Tiffany (R, a sitting congressman), 1,221,668 votes, 45.92%. Sarah Godlewski (D, the sitting secretary of state) was elected lieutenant governor on Crowley's ticket.

U.S. Senator: no election this year. Sen. Tammy Baldwin's (D) seat is next contested in 2030, and Sen. Ron Johnson's (R) in 2028.

Other Statewide Offices

Attorney General: Josh Kaul (D, incumbent), reelected to a third term over Eric Toney (R). Called by the AP; the unofficial snapshot stands at Kaul 54.7%, Toney 45.3%, with exact totals awaiting the official count.

Secretary of State: JoCasta Zamarripa (D), 1,335,494 votes, 50.69%, elected. Called by the AP. Jay Schroeder (R) took 1,199,558 votes and Pete Karas (Green) 99,454. Zamarripa is the first Latino elected to a statewide office in Wisconsin.

State Treasurer: Yee Leng Xiong (D), elected over incumbent John Leiber (R); the unofficial snapshot stands at Xiong 51.9%, Leiber 48.1%, with exact totals awaiting the official count. Xiong is Hmong American, the son of Hmong refugees — the first Hmong American elected to a statewide office anywhere in the United States, and Wisconsin's first Asian American elected to statewide office.

The superintendent of public instruction is an elected office chosen in spring elections and was not on this November ballot; state Supreme Court justices are likewise chosen in spring elections, with none up this November.

Ballot Questions

Question 1 (constitutional amendment): bar the governor from using the partial veto to create or increase any tax or fee. Yes 1,302,896 votes, 50.70% — passed. Called by the AP.

Question 2 (constitutional amendment): bar state and local governments from closing houses of worship, or banning gatherings there, during an emergency, including a public-health emergency. No 1,340,808 votes, 51.97% — rejected. Called by the AP.

Question 3 (constitutional amendment): bar government entities from discriminating or granting preferential treatment based on race, sex, color, ethnicity or national origin. Yes 1,446,384 votes, 56.43% — passed. Called by the AP.

Those were the ballot's three statewide questions, all legislatively referred constitutional amendments; local questions such as school referendums are not part of this section.

U.S. House

Overview: all eight seats were up and all eight have been called. Republicans held six seats to the Democrats' two before the election; afterwards the delegation stands at 4-4, a net Democratic gain of two.

District 1: Mitchell Berman (D), 158,839 votes, defeated incumbent Bryan Steil (R), 146,885 votes — a flip.

District 2: Mark Pocan (D), 298,359 votes, reelected.

District 3: Rebecca Cooke (D), 172,757 votes, defeated incumbent Derrick Van Orden (R), 150,872 votes — a flip.

District 4: Gwen Moore (D), 211,898 votes, reelected.

District 5: Scott Fitzgerald (R), 220,990 votes, reelected.

District 6: Glenn Grothman (R), 172,138 votes, reelected.

District 7: Michael Alfonso (R), 186,035 votes, elected; Republicans held the open seat vacated by Tom Tiffany's run for governor. Alfonso is reported to be the youngest member of the incoming Congress.

District 8: Tony Wied (R), 177,258 votes, reelected.

Chinese American / Asian American winners: none among the eight House winners. The state's Asian American win came at the statewide level — see the treasurer's race under Other Statewide Offices.

State Legislature

State Senate: 17 of the 33 seats, the odd-numbered districts, were up. Republicans controlled the chamber 18-15 before the election; afterwards Democrats hold 18 seats to 15 — a flip of control.

State Assembly: all 99 seats were up. Republicans held 54 seats to 45 before the election; afterwards Democrats hold 53 to 46 — a flip of control.

The chambers' final seat counts come from Wisconsin Public Radio's unofficial tally and could shift slightly if individual districts are recounted. With the governorship and both chambers, Wisconsin has a Democratic trifecta for the first time since 2010.

Counting and Certification

All figures are from the Wisconsin Elections Commission's official count and AP calls as of the morning of November 4. Exact vote totals for attorney general and treasurer, and the legislature's final seat counts, await the official tally; state certification is expected by December 1. All results are unofficial until certification. GSM will update this list around certification.
