Washington 2026 Election Results: House Delegation Unchanged, Three Statewide Initiatives Uncalled

Washington's 2026 midterm ballot carried no race for governor or any statewide executive office. The contests centered on three statewide citizen initiatives and the state's ten U.S. House seats. As of the morning of November 4, the Associated Press had not called any of the three initiatives. Eight of the ten House seats have been called, all for Democratic incumbents, and Republicans lead the remaining two, leaving the delegation unchanged at an expected eight Democrats and two Republicans. About 60 percent of ballots have been counted, and mail ballots are still being tallied. These results are the collective choice of the state's voters and are presented here as a factual record.
Governor and U.S. Senator
There was no election for governor or U.S. senator this year. Governor Bob Ferguson, a Democrat, next faces election in 2028, and one of the state's U.S. Senate seats is next scheduled for a regular election in 2028.
Other Statewide Offices
No other statewide office was on the ballot: the attorney general, secretary of state, lieutenant governor, state treasurer, state auditor, commissioner of public lands and insurance commissioner all share the governor's 2024-2028 cycle. The current lieutenant governor is Dennis Heck, a Democrat.
Ballot Questions
Initiative 638 would require K-12 school sports to be separated by sex assigned at birth, effectively barring transgender girls from girls' teams, with medical verification. It remains uncalled, with Yes leading 56.8 percent (1,119,192 to 852,539).
Initiative 645 would repeal the 9.9 percent income tax on earnings above $1 million and bar future state and local personal income taxes. It remains uncalled, with No leading 58.1 percent (1,152,229 to 830,106), putting the repeal behind.
Initiative 001 would restore the original 2024 Parents' Bill of Rights and undo the Legislature's 2025 amendments, covering parental access to instructional materials, notification and opting out of sex education. It remains uncalled, with No leading 52.7 percent (1,018,262 to 912,202).
U.S. House
In the U.S. House delegation, the eight Democrats called as reelected are Suzan DelBene (District 1), Rick Larsen (District 2), Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (District 3), Emily Randall (District 6), Pramila Jayapal (District 7), Kim Schrier (District 8), Adam Smith (District 9) and Marilyn Strickland (District 10).
Two seats are uncalled: Republican Amanda McKinney leads with 54.2 percent in District 4, an open seat vacated by a retiring Republican, and Republican incumbent Michael Baumgartner leads with 50.5 percent in District 5. No seat has been called as flipped.
Among the winners, Pramila Jayapal is Indian American and Marilyn Strickland, now reelected to a fourth term, is Korean American. No Chinese American winner appears in the Associated Press list of called House races in the state.
State Legislature
Democrats continue to control both chambers of the state Legislature, with no change in control. Before the election, Democrats held the House 59-39 and the Senate 30-19. All 98 House seats and 24 Senate seats were on the ballot this year, and whether Democrats reach a supermajority in either chamber has not been called. In Senate District 35, Democrat Carolina Mejia leads Republican incumbent Drew MacEwen 51.5 percent in another uncalled race.
Counting and Certification
The figures above are semi-official results from the Washington Secretary of State and Associated Press data. Mail ballots are still being counted, uncalled contests are listed by their current leader only, counties certify on November 24 and the Secretary of State certifies statewide results by December 3. Final results are subject to official certification.
