Missouri 2026 Election Results: Abortion-Restriction Amendment Rejected, New Congressional Map Defeated in Referendum

Governor and U.S. Senator
Missouri voted in the 2026 midterm elections on November 3. The results below are the collective choice of the state's voters. According to the Missouri Secretary of State's official unofficial count and Associated Press race calls, there was no governor's or U.S. Senate race this year, and the ballot's only statewide office, state auditor, was won by incumbent Scott Fitzpatrick with 50.9%. Of the five statewide questions, the amendment restoring abortion restrictions was rejected and the legislature's new congressional map was defeated in a referendum, while Amendment 8 is uncalled and listed by leader only. All eight U.S. House seats have been called, with Democrats gaining one by flipping District 2, and Republicans kept both legislative chambers but lost their supermajorities in each. This year's House elections were held under the 2022 district map.
Governor: no election this year. Gov. Mike Kehoe (R), elected in 2024, is next contested in 2028.
U.S. Senator: no election this year. Sen. Josh Hawley's (R) seat is next contested in 2030, and Sen. Eric Schmitt's (R) in 2028.
Other Statewide Offices
State Auditor: Scott Fitzpatrick (R, incumbent), 50.9%, reelected. It was the only statewide office on this ballot. Quentin Wilson (D) took 46.5% and Dustin Coffell (Libertarian) 2.6%.
Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General and State Treasurer: all elected offices, but none was up this year; all are next contested in 2028. The sitting secretary of state is Denny Hoskins (R).
Note: state Supreme Court Judge Paul Wilson's retention vote passed, with 1,157,778 yes votes to 684,554 no; a judicial retention vote is not a contested election.
Ballot Questions
Amendment 3 (constitutional amendment, legislatively referred): repeal the reproductive-rights amendment voters passed in 2024, restore abortion restrictions (exceptions for rape and incest within 12 weeks, medical emergencies and fetal anomalies), and ban gender-transition treatment for minors. No 1,173,172 votes, 55.49% — rejected; the 2024 abortion-rights amendment remains in effect. Called by the AP.
Amendment 6 (constitutional amendment, citizen-initiated): strengthen protections for citizen initiatives and referendums — legislative changes to voter-passed initiatives, or referrals altering voter-passed amendments, would require an 80% threshold and voter confirmation. Yes 1,251,555 votes, 59.97% — passed. Called by the AP.
Amendment 7 (constitutional amendment, legislatively referred): create the Show-Me Prosperity Fund, a permanent public endowment whose investment returns would support state government and, once fully funded, phase out state taxes. No 1,251,889 votes, 60.55% — rejected. Called by the AP.
Amendment 8 (constitutional amendment, legislatively referred): write the election and powers of county sheriffs into the constitution — sheriffs must be elected and removable only through a quo warranto proceeding brought by the attorney general. Not yet called: Yes 1,053,346 votes, 50.99%, leads No 1,012,534 votes, 49.01%, with about 98.38% counted. Some local outlets have reported passage on the unofficial count, which conflicts with the AP's uncalled status; this list records the lead only.
Proposition A (citizen referendum): whether to approve the new congressional district map the legislature passed in 2025 (House Bill 1). No 1,273,815 votes, 61.84% — rejected; voters struck down the new map and the 2022 map remains in force. Called by the AP.
Those were the ballot's five statewide questions — four constitutional amendments and one referendum; county measures such as Boone County's jail sales tax are not part of this section.
U.S. House
Overview: all eight seats were up and all eight have been called. Republicans held six seats to the Democrats' two before the election; afterwards they hold five to three, a net Democratic gain of one.
District 1: Wesley Bell (D, incumbent), 189,175 votes, 81.49%, reelected over Paul Berry (R), 13.94%.
District 2: Fred Wellman (D), 169,477 votes, 51.14%, defeated seven-term incumbent Ann Wagner (R), 153,132 votes, 46.21% — a flip, and the state's only House flip this year.
District 3: Bob Onder (R, incumbent), 149,239 votes, 52.88%, reelected over Bethany Mann (D), 44.39%.
District 4: Mark Alford (R, incumbent), 150,944 votes, 61.22%, reelected over Jordan Herrera (D), 35.86%.
District 5: Emanuel Cleaver (D, incumbent), 179,256 votes, 69.49%, reelected over Rick Brattin (R), 28.13%.
District 6: Chris Stigall (R), 151,219 votes, 58.69%, elected over Josh Smead (D), 38.97%. The seat was open after Sam Graves retired — not a flip.
District 7: Eric Burlison (R, incumbent), 157,599 votes, 62.19%, reelected over Missi Hesketh (D), 35.40%.
District 8: Jason Smith (R, incumbent), 152,677 votes, 67.73%, reelected over Chris Reichard (D), 29.17%.
Chinese American / Asian American winners: none among the eight House winners.
State Legislature
State Senate: half of the 34 seats were up. Republicans held 24 seats to 10 before the election; afterwards they hold 22 to 12 — Democrats gained two seats, Republicans lost their two-thirds supermajority (a 23-seat threshold) but kept the majority, and control did not flip.
State House: all 163 seats were up. Republicans held 111 seats to 52 before the election; afterwards they hold 95 to 68 — Democrats flipped 16 seats, including 10 held by Republican incumbents, ending the Republicans' two-thirds supermajority held since 2012, while the majority itself did not flip.
Counting and Certification
All figures are from the Missouri Secretary of State's official unofficial count and AP calls as of the morning of November 4, with about 2.06 to 2.11 million votes cast on each statewide question. Amendment 8 awaits a call and is listed by leader only; the auditor's race is recorded by the Secretary of State's percentage, with vote totals to follow at certification. The official statewide turnout percentage had not been published at the time of compilation. All results are unofficial until state certification. GSM will update this list after the remaining call and certification.
