Hawaii 2026 Election Results: Green Reelected with 73.4%, Two Constitutional Amendments Lead Uncalled

In Hawaii's 2026 midterm election, Governor Josh Green, a Democrat, was reelected with 73.4 percent of the vote, and former Kauai County mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami was elected lieutenant governor on the same ticket. Both of the state's U.S. House seats were held by Democratic incumbents. Yes votes on both statewide constitutional amendments lead by wide margins and are above the passage threshold, but the Associated Press has not called either one. Democrats continue to control both chambers of the state Legislature. These results are the collective choice of Hawaii voters and are presented here as a factual record.
Governor and U.S. Senator
Hawaii elects its governor and lieutenant governor as a single ticket. Green received 263,274 votes (73.4 percent) to Republican Gary Cordery's 95,519 (26.6 percent), and the AP has called Green's reelection. Kawakami, who became the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor in the August primary, is elected with him; the previous lieutenant governor, Sylvia Luke, stepped aside earlier this year.
No U.S. Senate seat was on Hawaii's ballot this year. Senator Brian Schatz, a Democrat, is next up in 2028; Senator Mazie Hirono, a Democrat, is next up in 2030.
Other Statewide Offices
The governor-lieutenant governor ticket is Hawaii's only statewide elected executive office; the attorney general and similar posts are appointed. Five seats on the Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) board of trustees, a nonpartisan body, were also up this year, but no complete list of winners confirmed by the AP or the Office of Elections was available at the time of writing, so this report does not list them seat by seat.
Ballot Questions
Question 1 (constitutional amendment) would extend the time the state Senate has to consider and act on judicial nominations. Uncalled: Yes has 212,817 votes to No's 123,132, which is 63.3 percent of votes cast on the question and 58.2 percent of all ballots cast including blanks — above the threshold requiring Yes to reach more than 50 percent of all ballots cast.
Question 2 (constitutional amendment) would let the Legislature authorize counties to issue RISE bonds (Resilient Infrastructure for Shelter and Equity bonds) to finance housing-related infrastructure, excluded from county debt limits. Uncalled: Yes has 227,522 votes to No's 108,328, or 67.7 percent of votes on the question and 62.2 percent of all ballots cast including blanks. Some reporting citing state returns has described Question 2 as passed, which differs from the AP's not-yet-called status; this report follows the AP and lists it as uncalled with Yes far ahead.
U.S. House
In the U.S. House races, Ed Case (District 1, Democrat) was reelected with 115,188 votes, about 72.9 percent, and Jill Tokuda (District 2, Democrat) was reelected with 126,197 votes, about 67.1 percent, both called by the AP. Tokuda, who is Japanese American, is one of only three Japanese Americans currently serving in the U.S. House. Both seats were Democratic before the election and remain so, with no flips; neither winner is Chinese American.
State Legislature
Democrats continue to control both the state Senate, where they keep a supermajority, and the state House, with no change in control of either chamber. Many down-ballot races are still being counted, and exact post-election seat counts for each chamber have not been published, so this report records control only.
Counting and Certification
The figures above are from Hawaii Office of Elections returns summaries and Associated Press data. Mail ballots are still being counted, the uncalled amendments are listed by their current standing only, and final results are subject to official certification.
