Ohio 2026 Election Results: Acton Elected Governor, Brown Wins the U.S. Senate Special Election

Governor and U.S. Senator
Ohio voted in the 2026 midterm elections on November 3. The results below are the collective choice of the state's voters. According to the Ohio Secretary of State's official unofficial count and Associated Press race calls, Democrat Amy Acton was elected governor with about 52.3%, becoming the first woman elected governor of Ohio, and Sherrod Brown flipped a U.S. Senate seat in a special election with about 50.0%. The races for attorney general, auditor and treasurer have not been called and are listed with their current leaders only. The ballot's single statewide issue, Issue 3, passed with about 65.3%. Fourteen of the 15 U.S. House seats have been called.
Governor: Amy Acton (D), 2,404,178 votes, about 52.3%, elected — a flip from Republican control. Gov. Mike DeWine was term-limited and the seat was open. Called by the AP.
Governor, other candidates: Vivek Ramaswamy (R), 2,039,730 votes, about 44.4%; Don Kissick (Libertarian), 151,874 votes, about 3.3%. David Pepper (D) was elected lieutenant governor on Acton's ticket.
U.S. Senator (special election): Sherrod Brown (D), 2,301,042 votes, about 50.0%, elected — a flip from Republican to Democratic. Called by the AP. The seat was JD Vance's; after Vance became vice president, Jon Husted was appointed to it, and this special election chose who serves the remainder of the term, to January 2029.

The state's other senator, Bernie Moreno (R), was not up this year; his seat is next contested in 2030.
Other Statewide Offices
Note: every statewide executive office was up this year because of term limits, and no incumbent ran for reelection to the same office.
Secretary of State: Allison Russo (D), 2,287,160 votes, about 50.3%, elected. Called by the AP. Robert Sprague (R) took 2,129,981 votes, about 46.8%; Tom Pruss (Libertarian), 134,179 votes, about 3.0%.
Attorney General: not yet called. John Kulewicz (D), about 50.31%, leads Keith Faber (R), about 49.69%; Faber has conceded.

State Supreme Court (two seats, elected statewide): Jennifer Brunner (D, incumbent), about 51.37%, defeated Colleen O'Donnell (R); Marilyn Zayas (D), about 51.01%, defeated incumbent Dan Hawkins (R), and will become the first Latino justice on the court. The court will stand at five Republicans and two Democrats.
Comptroller: Ohio has no elected state comptroller; state fiscal oversight rests with the elected auditor.
Ballot Questions
The ballot carried one statewide issue. Issue 3: write into the state constitution the requirement that in-person voters show government-issued photo ID and that absentee voters provide photo ID or a signature plus a statutory unique identifier. Yes 2,934,245 votes, about 65.3%; No 1,556,864 votes, about 34.7% — passed. Called by the AP. No statewide Issue 1 or Issue 2 appeared on this ballot.

District 12: Troy Balderson (R), reelected.
District 13: Emilia Sykes (D), reelected.
District 14: David Joyce (R), reelected.

Chinese American / Asian American winners: none among the called winners or the District 10 leader. Gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, an Indian American, was not elected.
State Legislature
State Senate: 17 of the 33 seats were up. Republicans kept control, 22 seats to the Democrats' 11; Democrats gained two seats, and Republicans retained a veto-proof supermajority.
State House: Republicans kept control, at about 56 seats to 43 in the unofficial tally, with four districts still too close and subject to possible recounts. Democrats gained about nine seats, and Republicans lost their state House supermajority for the first time since 2013 while keeping the majority. With the governorship going Democratic, Ohio's Republican trifecta has ended.
Counting and Certification
All figures are from the Ohio Secretary of State's official unofficial count and AP calls as of the morning of November 4, with about 98.0% of precincts reporting. About 4.56 million ballots were cast statewide, including more than 1.7 million early votes. Roughly 100,000 provisional ballots remain to be processed; the attorney general, auditor, treasurer and House District 10 races await calls. All results are unofficial until the county boards count provisional and late absentee ballots and certify. GSM will update this list as the remaining races are called.
