Georgia Election Results: Democrats Win Governor's Race and Sweep Statewide Offices

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · States · GSM News

Here is the full list of Georgia results from the 2026 midterm elections. Democratic candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms was elected governor, and Democrats won every statewide executive office on the ballot. Incumbent U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff was reelected, and the preliminary count shows control of the state House flipping. The statewide list follows.

Governor and U.S. Senator

Governor: Keisha Lance Bottoms (Democrat) received 2,268,462 votes (54.3%), defeating Rick Jackson (Republican), who received 1,908,261 votes (45.7%); the Associated Press called the race on election night. Incumbent Governor Brian Kemp was term-limited. Bottoms is Georgia's first woman governor and first Black governor, and the first Democrat to win the office since 1998.

U.S. Senator: Jon Ossoff (Democrat, incumbent) received 2,463,132 votes (59.0%), defeating Mike Collins (Republican), who received 1,711,322 votes (41.0%), to win a second six-year term. The AP called the race less than an hour after polls closed.

Other Statewide Offices

Democrats won every statewide executive office this year:

Lieutenant Governor: Josh McLaurin (Democrat) defeated Greg Dolezal (Republican), 55.9% to 44.1%.

Attorney General: Tanya Miller (Democrat) defeated Brian Strickland (Republican), 55.5% to 44.5%. Miller is Georgia's first woman attorney general and first Black woman attorney general.

Secretary of State: Penny Brown Reynolds (Democrat) received 2,318,415 votes (55.7%), defeating Tim Fleming (Republican), who received 1,846,468 votes (44.3%). Reynolds is Georgia's first Black secretary of state.

Commissioner of Agriculture: Katherine E. Juhan-Arnold (Democrat) defeated incumbent Tyler Harper (Republican), 53.8% to 46.2%.

Commissioner of Insurance: Keisha Sean Waites (Democrat) defeated incumbent John King (Republican), 54.3% to 45.7%.

Commissioner of Labor: Nikki Porcher (Democrat) defeated incumbent Bárbara Rivera Holmes (Republican), 54.6% to 45.4%.

State School Superintendent: Lydia Powell (Democrat) defeated incumbent Richard Woods (Republican), 54.6% to 45.4%.

Public Service Commission: In the official state count, Peter Hubbard (Democrat, incumbent) received 56.3% in District 3, and Sheila Edwards (Democrat) received more than 55% in District 5.

Four Republican statewide incumbents lost this year (Agriculture, Insurance, Labor and Education), and women won at least eight statewide offices.

Ballot Questions

All three constitutional amendments on this year's ballot passed:

Amendment 1 (conservation-use property tax benefit for farm and forest land): raises the enrollment cap from 2,000 acres to 4,000 acres — PASSED, with 2,159,764 yes votes (53.9%).

Amendment 2 (nonpartisan elections for probate judges): makes probate judge elections nonpartisan — PASSED, with 2,747,664 yes votes (68.4%).

Amendment 3 (Georgia Next Generation 9-1-1 Fund): authorizes the legislature to create a dedicated Georgia Next Generation 9-1-1 Fund — PASSED, with 3,129,491 yes votes (77.7%).

U.S. House

Georgia has 14 seats in the U.S. House, and the AP has called all of them: 9 Republicans and 5 Democrats, the same split as before the election, with no seat changing parties.

Four members are newly elected, each holding a seat for their own party: James Kingston (Republican) in District 1, Houston Gaines (Republican) in District 10, John Cowan (Republican) in District 11 and Jasmine Clark (Democrat) in District 13.

There are no Chinese American or Asian American winners in this year's Georgia U.S. House delegation.

State Legislature

State Senate (56 seats): The preliminary count shows Republicans holding their majority, 29 seats to the Democrats' 27, a much narrower margin than the roughly 33-to-23 split before the election; control is subject to final certification.

State House (180 seats): The preliminary count shows Democrats flipping control, 93 seats to the Republicans' 86, with one seat (District 151) headed to a runoff after no candidate won a majority. If the preliminary results hold, it would be the Democrats' first state House majority since 2004. However, districts such as District 103 (Democrats ahead by 27 votes) and District 154 (Democrats ahead by 59 votes) are close enough that recounts remain possible, and control of the chamber has not yet been officially certified.

Taken together — the governorship changing parties, the state House preliminarily flipping and the state Senate remaining Republican — Georgia's single-party control of the governorship and both legislative chambers has been broken, based on the preliminary count.

Counting and Certification

These results are the collective choices of Georgia voters. The figures above come from the Georgia Secretary of State's official count and Associated Press race calls. All results are unofficial and not yet certified; all 159 counties completed their election-night counts, while provisional ballots and late-arriving military and overseas ballots will be counted through November 6. Final results are subject to official certification.
