Louisiana 2026 Election Results: Letlow Elected to the Senate; Two House Seats Head to December Runoffs

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · States · GSM News

Louisiana voted in the 2026 midterm elections on November 3, and the results below are the collective choice of the state's voters. According to the Louisiana Secretary of State's semi-official count and Associated Press race calls, Julia Letlow was elected to the U.S. Senate; seven of the 10 constitutional amendments passed and three were rejected; four of the state's six U.S. House seats have been called, while Districts 5 and 6, where no candidate won a majority, go to runoffs on December 12; and there were no elections for governor or the Legislature this year. The full list follows.

Governor and U.S. Senator

Governor: no election this year. The incumbent is Jeff Landry (R); the office is next contested in 2027.

U.S. Senator: Julia Letlow (R), 745,963 votes, 51%, elected; Jamie Davis (D) took 720,106 votes, 49%, a margin of 25,857 votes in one of the state's closest Senate races in recent years. Called by the AP. The seat was held by Republican Bill Cassidy, who lost the Republican primary; Letlow's win keeps the seat Republican — no flip.

Senate note: Letlow is the first Republican woman elected to the U.S. Senate from Louisiana and the second woman ever elected to the Senate from the state. The state's other senator, John Kennedy (R), was not up this year; his seat is next contested in 2028.

Other Statewide Offices

Statewide constitutional offices: none were contested this year. Governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state and treasurer are elected in odd years with the governor; the next elections are in 2027.

Public Service Commission District 1 (a district-level seat, not statewide): Stephanie Hilferty (R), about 59%, elected.

Public Service Commission District 5 (a district-level seat, not statewide): John E. Atkins (R), 161,038 votes, 59%, elected; James Edward Green (D) took 111,188 votes, 41%.

Ballot Measures

The ballot carried 10 constitutional amendments: seven passed and three were rejected, all called by the AP.

Amendment 1: Allow surviving spouses of disabled veterans to transfer a property tax exemption to another home once. Yes 74% — passed.

Amendment 2: Adjust property tax millage rules so taxing bodies may keep a lowered rate without losing authority to roll it back up to the cap. Yes about 42% — rejected.

Amendment 3: Bar bail after conviction for those convicted of aggravated offenses against minors. Yes 68% — passed.

Amendment 4: Impose a lifetime ban on serving as governor again on anyone who has served more than a term and a half. Yes 56% — passed.

Amendment 5: Remove the requirement that retirement systems pay off their oldest debt first. Yes about 38% — rejected.

Amendment 6: Provide an additional property tax exemption for eligible homeowners aged 65 and older. Yes 64% — passed.

Amendment 7: Allow public funds to identify, inventory, remove or replace dangerous water service lines. Yes 65% — passed.

Amendment 8: Prohibit foreign adversaries or their agents from expropriating property. Yes 62% — passed.

Amendment 9: Raise the income cap for the special assessment level under the homestead exemption. Yes 58% — passed.

Amendment 10: Provide a property tax exemption for rehabilitated blighted property. Yes about 47% — rejected.

U.S. House

Overview: the state has 6 seats, held 4-2 by Republicans before the election. Four have been called (3 Republicans, 1 Democrat) with no flips among them; Districts 5 and 6 go to runoffs on December 12, 2026, which will decide those seats and whether either flips.

District 1: Steve Scalise (R), 159,890 votes, 61%, reelected.

District 2: Troy Carter (D), 192,258 votes, about 80%, reelected.

District 3: Clay Higgins (R), 129,203 votes, about 55%, reelected.

District 4: Mike Johnson (R), 134,739 votes, 58%, reelected. Johnson is the sitting Speaker of the House.

District 5: not yet called; no candidate won a majority, so the seat goes to a runoff on December 12, 2026. Pat Moore (D) leads with 40,789 votes, 18%, followed by Gabe Firment (R) with 39,131 votes, 17%; both advance to the runoff.

District 6: not yet called; no candidate won a majority, so the seat goes to a runoff on December 12, 2026. Chauna Banks (D) leads with 50,878 votes, about 19%, followed by Blake Miguez (R) with 50,213 votes, about 19%; the Secretary of State has confirmed both advance to the runoff.

Chinese American / Asian American winners: none among the called winners or the runoff leaders in the two undecided districts.

State Legislature

No legislative elections this year. Louisiana is one of four states with no state legislative elections in 2026; both chambers are next fully contested in 2027.

State Senate: Republican control, no flip (no election this year).

State House: Republican control, no flip (no election this year).

All figures are from the Louisiana Secretary of State's semi-official count and AP calls as of the morning of November 4. Mail ballots are still being counted; the District 5 and 6 House seats will be decided by the December 12 runoffs, and final results are subject to certification by the Secretary of State. GSM will update this list after the runoffs.
