LA County Fire District Sales Tax Measure FD Leads With About 53.6 Percent Yes, Too Early to Call

Measure FD, proposed by the Los Angeles County Fire District, went before voters in the November 3 election. The Associated Press count shows 386,446 votes in favor and 334,174 against, putting the yes side ahead with about 53.6 percent, though AP has not yet called the measure.

Measure FD would levy a half-cent (0.5 percent) sales tax within the Los Angeles County Fire District and requires a simple majority to pass. The district provides fire and emergency medical services to unincorporated areas and dozens of contract cities.

Los Angeles County has estimated the tax would raise about $150 million a year for the fire district, for firefighter staffing, equipment and station upkeep. Final results await completion of the county count and certification.
