Vermont 2026 Election Results: Scott Wins Sixth Term as Governor, Both Constitutional Amendments Pass

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · States · GSM News

Vermont voted in the 2026 midterm elections on November 3, and the results below are the collective choice of the state's voters. According to the Vermont Secretary of State's count and Associated Press race calls, Phil Scott was reelected governor for a sixth term, the lieutenant governorship flipped to the Democrats, Democrats won the other statewide offices, both constitutional amendments passed, and the state's U.S. House seat was held by Democrats. There was no U.S. Senate race this year. The full list follows.

Governor and U.S. Senator

Governor: Phil Scott (R, incumbent), 163,158 votes, 52.6%, reelected to an unprecedented sixth consecutive two-year term. Called by the AP.

Governor, other candidates: Amanda Janoo (Democratic and Progressive nominee), 141,573 votes, 45.6%, conceded on election night; Brian Judd (independent), 0.8%; June Goodband (Peace and Justice Party), 0.4%; Dean Roy, 0.4%.

U.S. Senator: no race this year (this section is retained and noted for completeness). Sen. Peter Welch (D) serves until 2028 and Sen. Bernie Sanders (independent) until 2030.

Other Statewide Offices

Lieutenant Governor: Molly Gray (D, a former lieutenant governor), 190,901 votes, about 62.9%, elected, defeating incumbent John Rodgers (R), 112,682 votes — a flip from Republican to Democratic and the only party flip among the statewide offices this year. Rodgers has conceded.

Secretary of State: Sarah Copeland Hanzas (D), 174,643 votes, 59.2%, reelected. Her opponents were H. Brooke Paige (R), 96,141 votes, 32.6%, and Rachel Shaw (Progressive), 23,991 votes, 8.1%. Called by the AP.

Attorney General: Charity Clark (D), reelected to a third term. Her opponent was Edwin Howell Kemon (R). The AP has called her win.

Treasurer: Mike Pieciak (D), reelected to a third term. His opponent was Lynn LaFleur (R).

Auditor of Accounts: Tim Ashe (D), elected, succeeding retiring incumbent Doug Hoffer — a Democratic hold. His opponent was Ivar Kronick (R).

In sum, Democrats won all five statewide offices beyond the governorship; final vote figures for attorney general, treasurer and auditor were not separately confirmed and winners only are listed, pending certification.

Ballot Questions

Proposal 3 (collective bargaining amendment): would write into the state constitution employees' right to organize or join a union and bargain collectively over wages, hours and working conditions, and bar legislation weakening that right. Passed: Yes 166,182 votes, 74.3%, to 57,591 No. Called by the AP.

Proposal 4 (equal protection amendment): would write equal protection under the law into the state constitution, barring the state from unequal treatment based on race, ethnicity, sex, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression or national origin. Passed: Yes 177,383 votes, 79.1%, to 46,777 No. Called by the AP.

Procedure note: a Vermont constitutional amendment must pass two successive legislatures and then be approved by voters by simple majority; both proposals completed that process and now enter the constitution.

U.S. House

Overview: the state has one seat (a single at-large district), held before and after the election by Democrats, with no flip.

At-Large District: Becca Balint (D, incumbent), 198,675 votes, reelected to a third term — about 63.8% on the Secretary of State's count basis. Her opponent Gerald Malloy (R) took 94,019 votes, about 30.2%, with several independent candidates at about 1% each. Called by the AP.

Chinese American / Asian American winners: none at the federal level; no Chinese American or Asian American winner was found in this race. For an Asian American winner at the state level, see the State Legislature section.

State Legislature

State Senate: 30 seats, all up this year. Democrats kept control and restored a two-thirds supermajority (threshold 20 seats), with no flip of control; from 16 Democratic, 13 Republican and one other seat before the election, Democrats and Progressives together reached the veto-override threshold, with exact seats pending certification.

State House: 150 seats, all up this year. Democrats kept control and restored a supermajority (threshold 100 seats), with no flip of control; Republican seats will fall below the 51 needed to sustain a veto, with exact seats pending certification.

Asian American winner: state Sen. Kesha Ram Hinsdale (D) was reelected in the multi-member Chittenden-Southeast district with about 23% of the vote (one of three winners). She is an Indian American, serves as state Senate majority leader, and in 2020 became the first woman of color in the Vermont Senate.

Counting and Certification

The Secretary of State's election-night system showed all 247 towns reporting. Figures are from the Secretary of State's unofficial count and AP calls as of November 4 and await state certification; uncalled races are listed with their current leaders only, and final results are subject to official certification. GSM will update this list as the remaining races are called.
